Sachchidanand Sinha College, Aurangabad, Bihar - A Profile
Sachchidanand Sinha College, Aurangabad has a proud history and bears the name of Dr. Sachichidanand Sinha, the maker of modern Bihar, From the very beginning it had the blessings of Dr Anugrah Narain Sinha. one of the foremost leaders of Freedom Movement in Bihar. Akhouri Krishna Prakash Sinha, the founder of this college had the zeal and in some measure the perseverance of Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya. Any narrative of this college will remain incomplete without paying tributes to the memory of the three great men.
Akhouri Krishna Prakash Sinha was a real prince among men who tirelessly pursued his cherished goal of bringing enlightenment to this remote and back ward area. To start a college in such a small and Under developed town and that too in the pre- independence days really demanded the spirit of a missionary. And when it became a reality it surprised Dr. Sachchidanand Sinha, the person after whose name it had been established. No less surprised was Dr. Anugrah Narain Sinha whose care and help nourished the college since its very inception
Akhouri Krishna Prakash Sinha was man of learning but more than that he wanted to spread the light of learning in society. His lucrative practice at the bar and the gift of a literary talent remained secondary to him. Even the rigours of the freedom struggle did not come in the way of his philanthropic activity. Philanthropy was in fact the philosophy of the life of Tripurari Babu as Akhouri Krishna Prakash Sinha was affectionately called by the people of Aurangabad.
Another illustrious son of Bihar Dr. Anugrah Narain Sinha was closely associated with the college right from its very inception. Dr Anugrah Narain Sinha, who is known in Bihar as “Bihar Bibhuti” was a prominent freedom fighter and as the first Finance Minister of Bihar after independence shaped the destiny of the State to a considerable degree. Bihar was recognized as the best administered state during the first few years since independence and also had the distinction of securing the first position in the achievement of the First Five Year plan targets. Dr. Sinha’s role in all this was simply exemplary. In spite of such pressing engagements Dr. Anugrah Narain Sinha always extended his helping hand in the all round development of the College.
Dr Sachchidanand Sinha whose name the college bears hardly needs any introduction. He was a father-figure and was widely respected for his learning and erudite scholarship. As a great jurist and a pioneer journalist he enjoyed an enviable position in the Country. It was on account of his relentless efforts that Bihar was separated from Bengal in 1912 and was restored to its glory. In fact, he was a giant among the intellectuals of his time. To quote Sarojni Naidu “ Dr. Sachchidanand Sinha is a man of wide interests and versatile talents and his have been notable achievements in many fields; in law and letters, journalism, education and Public activity of various kinds”. It should be noted that he was very much instrumental in the establishment of Patna University.
For about forty long years Dr. Sachchidanand Sinha was associated with legislative functions at the central and Provincial level and it was only apt that he has nominated President of the constituent Assembly which began on December, 9,1946.
It is indeed a matter of great pride that this institution is named after the great man. Sachchidand Sinha College was established in 1943 which was granted affiliation in 1944 by the Patna University. This college became constituent unit of Magadh University, Bodh Gaya (Bihar).
